We recently conducted a survey for Paperless Parts, the “2022 Custom Part Buyer Expectations” which served as a follow up to our similarly titled 2020 study. A total of 632 individuals including part buyers (76%) or engineers working with procurement or other individuals (24%) have responded to this survey in total, with the first survey results from July and August of 2020 including responses from 417 participants. The most recent survey results are from July 28-September 2, 2022, and include responses from 215 participants. With this study we discovered that global supply chains, in particular, have been pushed to their limits, with 84% of survey respondents experiencing a supply chain issue in the last two years. Another major source of worry is inflation, which has raised the cost of doing business for job shops and their customers, as 76% of survey respondents report that their costs have increased somewhat or significantly in the past year. This has led to a vast majority of individuals seeking new vendors, with 94% of buyers reporting that they’ve tried out at least one new vendor in the last 12 months.
