Hockey fans are excited about the Stanley Cup, yet few Americans consider hockey their favorite sport to follow. In a recent online survey by Researchscape, only 5% of respondents said that hockey was their favorite sport, behind football, baseball and basketball.

What is your favorite sport to follow?

Researchscape surveyed 302 U.S. adults. The online survey was fielded from October 8 to November 20, 2012; survey results were not weighted. Based on the methodology, this survey is only slightly likely to be representative of U.S. consumers in general: the results should be considered qualitative or directional in nature.

A separate Gallup survey in December 2005 produced the same ranking of the top 4 major sports, with ice hockey barely edging out ice/figure skating.
