The first part of our survey for Blue Yonder was addressed in an article about the increasing importance of e-commerce in a COVID-19 world. Conducted in October 2020, we polled 300 senior executives in the retail and e-commerce industries about the increased need for both digital solutions and automated fulfillment centers to meet the high demand of consumers during the pandemic. As many are hesitant to go shopping in person, the percentage of revenue generated by e-commerce saw a sharp increase, up by 33%.
The article also highlights that “Retailers are expanding their logistics network with more fulfillment and micro-fulfillment centers to meet the surge in e-commerce orders and customer preferences. Drug store/health & beauty retailers, and grocery retailers in particular increased the number of fulfillment centers to meet e-commerce needs than other vertical categories.”
